Boutique Hotel
There is music coming from Buenos Aires uber-hip Palermo Viejo district, as a UK-record producer and his publicist wife create one of the city's first true luxury boutique hotels. Its well-suited name alludes to a residential location on an otherwise nondescript street in an area popular with techy-media companies and loft-dwelling urbanites. A rambling masonry facade reveals walls of glass and inter-connecting buildings splashed in bright-tropical colors. Trendy transatlantic-types enter a groovy lounge lounge with 50s Scandinavian furnishings and inlaid-wooden wall leading to a garden-theme bar area. The Resto Bar features a glass enclosed garden-theme design for breakfast, lunch and evening tapas as well as the occasional weekend DJ. The bar overlooks a backyard pool area accessed through a wooden staircase leading down to a manicured lawn with scattered deck chairs and the occasional pale sunbather. An on-site day spa performs an array of treatments for pampering or well being and is well presented given its modest-size.
The Room
It's the best-located hotel in Buenos Aires if looking for what’s hot and now, far removed from the Recoletta's dated luxury palaces like the Alvear and Four Seasons. This 17-bedroom residential-style boutique hotel offers a convenient city-center location walking distance to the best shops and restaurants in the city, yet with the leisure resort facilities of a hotel far larger in size. The main guest rooms are interconnected with the main lobby through glassy, airy corridors flush with natural light. Rooms feature a minimalist design palette with vintage hand-selected furnishings from the ‘50s and ‘60s, each with fully stocked mini bar, CD- MP3 players and WiFi internet access. Well-drawn architectural spaces include oversize windows overlooking either the pool garden, surrounding neighborhood or less-desirable interior zen patio. Beds are turned-down to discover 100% Egyptian cotton sheets and native llama wool blankets. Bathrooms feature polished cement sinks with artsy toiletries and choice of bath or shower. Larger guest suites feature walk-in showers and Jacuzzi baths " as well as larger apartment style accommodations with private terraces and balconies worthy of their modestly inflated price.
